Quince trees were extremely popular, especially back in the colonial days, but eventually were replaced with other trees such as apple trees because the fruit couldn't be eaten immediately. In North America, however, quince takes such a tiny part of agriculture (almost non-existent), that quince aren't even tracked. How to Grow Quince

Quince trees are best grown in USDA zones 5 through 9. As long you have the right conditions, growing quince trees isn't really all that difficult.

Growing Quince Trees:

  • Choose a spacious spot with plenty of sun.
  • Make sure you have loose, well draining soil.
  • Soil must also be fertile.
  • Plant two trees for best results (pollination).
  • Plant seeds directly into the soil and water thoroughly. Do this in the spring.
  • Next spring, fertilize with a low-nitrogen fertilizer.

Caring for Quince Trees:

  • Shape a small quince tree by removing all but five branches from the canopy. This way you won't have to do any heavy pruning once the tree has matured.
